US Tariffs on Selected Brazilian Imports Begin

The United States began applying 25% tariffs to selected Brazilian imports following an investigation into alleged unfair trade practices. Coffee, beef, orange juice, certain energy products and aerospace components were exempted. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticised the decision, while US officials presented it as protection for American businesses.
