Nadal enjoys first Thailand visit, sets sights on title

World No.1 Rafael Nadal says he has been very happy during his stay in Thailand.
The Spaniard took part in a tree-planting event as part of PTT’s project to grow one million trees for His Majesty the King at Kasetsart University Veterinary Hospital in Hua Hin yesterday.
The 24-year-old was there with his friend Juan Monaco, a player from Argentina. They both planted Rajapruek trees and gave autographs to fans.
The nine-time Grand Slam winner also donated US$10,000 (310,000 baht) for the hospital.
He had returned to Bangkok on Monday after spending a beach holiday in Hua Hin and flew back to the resort town yesterday.
“I am very happy to attend the activity,” said Nadal.
“I’d like to say that I am very happy staying in Bangkok and Hua Hin. I took my vacation in Hua Hin and played many other sports in the past week.
“The accommodation is very good. The smiles from Thai people make me feel very good. I also gave alms to monk and this merit making could help me win the Thailand Open for the first time.
“Thailand is a good place for tourists and the spicy food is very delicious to me and also my friends.”
The popular star said he was surprised when he knew how much Thais love His Majesty the King.
“The Thai people are doing everything for the beloved King,” he said.
He will begin his Thailand Open campaign in the second round against qualifier Ruben Bemelmans of Belgium at 7pm tomorrow.
