Ayutthaya floods cause production halt! Critical shortages of automotive and electronic parts expected

The severe flooding in Ayutthaya has taken its toll on Japanese manufacturers.
Nikon, Sony Corp., Toyota Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. and Isuzu Motors Ltd. in Ayutthaya have announced their decision to temporarily halt production as their factories have been inundated.
Nikon is not able to say when the operation will resume as the company’s production base in Ayutthaya has been badly hit. Toyota Motor Co. said it would decide if the factory should reopen on October 15.
A US vehicle manufacturer, Ford Motor Co. has also planned to halt its operation for two days to assess the damage.
Analysts warned that the stoppage in production would lead to critical shortages of automotive and electronic parts.
