Carefree: Fugitive former Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra hits the shops with wife and children
Former Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who fled to Britain to escape corruption charges, appears care free as enjoyed a shopping trip with his family.
An arrest warrant was issued in Thailand yesterday for Mr Thaksin, the billionaire owner of Manchester City Football Club. But it did not stop him strolling around the Surrey market town of Guildford with his wife Pojaman and some of his children. Mr Thaksin said he could not expect justice in Thailand.
The supreme court said he and his wife, accused of making an illegal land deal while in office, must forfeit bail of around £195,000. The couple deny wrongdoing. The court that issued the warrant will have to contact the Home Office to request that he be returned to Thailand. The Premier League must now decide whether Mr Thaksin still passes its `fit and proper person's test' to own a club.
