Yellow cards for four more poll winners

Four more candidates elected in the December 23 national polls were given yellow cards by the Election Commission (EC) on Monday on charges of involvement in electoral rigging or vote-buying.

They are likely to rerun in a by-election later this month.

According to commissioner Praphan Nayakowit, the elected candidates given yellow cards included Suthat Chansaengsri, a Democrat Party contestant in Phetchabun province's Constituency 1, and three People Power Party (PPP) candidates who won in Udon Thani province's Constituency 1, namely Surathin Phimarnmekhin, Cherdchai Wichianwan and Anant Sriphan.

The by-elections in those constituencies are scheduled for Jan 20, he said.

The EC has so far handed out yellow cards to three winning candidates in Nakhon Ratchasima province and red cards to three PPP winning candidates in Buri Ram.

Those receiving yellow cards are allow to re-contest in by-elections while red-carded candidates are banned from re-running.(TNA)-E008
