Post survey to gauge public opinion ahead of the election
From 12pm today, Post Poll 2007 will test the political waters in the weeks leading up to the Dec 23 general election.
To encourage people to play a role in an election that will shape the country's future, the Bangkok Post and our Thai-language sister paper Post Today will launch internet surveys on their websites: www.bangkokpost.com and www.posttoday.com, as well as affiliated websites such as www.jobjob.co.th and http://raanaroy.posttoday.com. The surveys will also be accessible from other websites where you see the Post Poll 2007 logo. Political parties began registering their candidates for the party-list vote yesterday. Eighteen parties have applied to run in the proportional representation vote from which 80 MPs will be elected _ 10 from each of the eight voting regions in the country. A wide range of political issues are expected to emerge in the weeks of campaigning ahead.
With political parties working to publicise their local and national policies and pushing their leaders as the country's best choice for a new, post-Thaksin era leader, the Bangkok Post and its affiliates are giving people a chance to express their opinions ahead of the polls. Post Poll 2007 offers you the chance to let us, and the rest of the country, know who you think is best equipped to lead the country, what issues you think are crying out for government attention and what the next government should focus on. There is no need to identify yourself. Just complete a brief registration form and take a few minutes to complete the survey. Each person can answer only once a week for a four-week period, from Oct 8 to Dec 12. Voting for each new week begins every Wednesday. The weekly vote has been designed to gauge changing public opinion of political parties and their campaigns as the election date draws nearer. Survey results will be announced in the Bangkok Post, Post Today and both newspapers' websites every Wednesday, starting from Nov 14. In compliance with the Election Commission's rules which prohibit survey results from being disclosed seven days before the election, the results of the last survey will be published on Dec 14. The poll is a survey of the opinions of Bangkok Post and Post Today readers, as well as other internet users. The results of the poll cannot be used or referenced to as a survey in full compliance with proper research methodology. The poll is not served for any commercial purpose and its results are for non-commercial use only and cannot in any way be used in influencing or guiding any voting or campaigning of any parties.
