German gets nine-year sentence in Thailand on child sex charges

Bangkok - A German national was found guilty Friday of sexually abusing five Thai minors and sentenced to more than nine years in jail.

Jorg Rudolf Fiedler, 43, was found guilty of molesting and raping five minors under the age of 13 and sentenced to nine years and four months in prison, said Judge Udom Saenboonsiree of the Bangkok Criminal Court.

Fiedler appealed the verdict and was freed on bail.

Fiedler, who was reportedly on Interpol's list of wanted child molesters, was arrested in Pattaya on March 17, 2006, on charges of sexually abusing the five children, both boys and girls, at the popular Thai beach resort.
