Thai Everest - it's over
(MountEverest.net) A 9-member expedition from Thailand had to abort their lonely fall attempt of Everest's south side about 350 metres from the summit due to bad weather, Bangkok Post reports.
"The safety of our members is our first concern," the Thai Embassy in Kathmandu told the Indian news agency IANS. "The team is now coming down." This was the only expedition attempting to scale Mt Everest from the Nepal side this autumn. The 9 climbers and 7 base camp members from Thailand were escorted by 12 climbing Sherpa from Thamserku and hoped for a summit push by end October. Prior to the ascent, the team trekked to Island peak for 2-3 weeks training and acclimatization. By Rajesh Kumar, Section Sports & Games Posted on Wed Nov 14, 2007 at 09:00:57 PM EST
