Huawei expects to win deals worth $262m from TOT
Telecom Asia Daily
(Bangkok Post via NewsEdge) Huawei Technologies is confident of winning huge projects worth around 10 billion baht ($262 million) each this year through the deployment of TOT's next generation network. The Chinese company is now a market leader in data-communication products in Thailand, ahead of Cisco Systems, in terms of sales to telecom service providers, according to Tony Hu, the chief engineer for data communications product marketing for Huawei. He added that, although Huawei trailed Cisco in terms of corporate customers in Thailand, it aimed to lead the global market by 2008. "Data communication is an area that is growing very quickly, with revenue forming 10% of [Huawei's] total revenue in 2005 of $8.2 billion. It is an area that is growing by more than 100% per year," he said. By Rajesh Kumar, Section Business Posted on Sun Jul 02, 2006 at 10:11:17 PM EST
He said True Corporation was Huawei's major customer in Thailand, as well as its first, after securing a contract six years ago. Its other customers include TT&T, AIS, and AIS subsidiary Advanced Digital Communications.
Another major client is CAT Telecom, for which Huawei is installing an expanded CDMA network. Although TOT is a major service provider with a variety of telecom services, Hu said he was surprised that it had no core IP network. He said that Huawei would have a good chance of winning projects as TOT now has an investment plan for an IP network and data-communication equipment. © 2006 Bangkok Post © 2006 Dialog, a Thomson business.
